One of the Leica's nicest features is its compactness. I carried it along with me for several days while running errands and doing some pinhole work; it fits in about any available pocket, even with the Jupiter 12 and its wide-angle finder attached. The first two pictures here are from the Elmar 3.5/50. The rest were shot with the Jupiter 12.

The little 5cm ƒ/3.5 Elmar is still a competent performer. It is impressive considering it was introduced in the early 20th century. Well done.
1950s units in good condition sell for serious $$s now. My Hove Pocket Book shows the ƒ/3.5 Elmars in thread mount to have been manufactured from 1924 to 1959. ƒ/3.5 M-mount units were made from 1954 to 1961.
Mine is a post-war coated model and a good performer that I know will always get the picture as long as I do my part.
I had one of the post war elmar 3.5 lenses back in the eighties and I liked it real well. It was mounted on a IIIf and at times a canon rf body. Some of the canon glass was real good too.
I don't actually see a lot of difference between the Elmar and a couple of my Soviet lenses, but it is nice to have a complete Leica outfit. The 135 Hector I picked up at the same time is probably a very good lens too, but it seems really impractical on the IIIa.
