Sanctuary

I visited the National Hispanic Cultural Center this morning with my Yashica-Mat.  I was surprised to find a couple roosters hanging out in the back courtyard.  One was pecking around under a big cottonwood, but the other was lying down beside a food dish and it looked pretty lethargic.  A couple staff people showed up and explained that the roosters had gotten into a fight the day before.  There were no obvious signs of injury, but this one was clearly pleased to get some personal attention.  They said the two roosters just showed up one day.  The staff started feeding them, and they became very tame.

I keep pondering the purchase of a Yashica-Mat. I currently do not have any medium format gear at all and I miss shooting MF.

Both Yashica-Mat cameras I have owned have developed small problems with the film advance. I applied a few drops of Ronsonal and set mine aside for about a year. That solved the advance jam, but I now get a bit irregularity in the frame spacing. Nothing that a proper cla wouldn't cure. The view if very good in the camera and the lens yields very nice results.

I bought a 124G new and used it until about 1990 when the advance became erratic. I had the camera CLA'd about 10 years ago for about the cost of the camera when new. After 4 or 5 rolls the advance became erratic again. Nice, but they are fragile.

That is a pretty disappointing outcome. My impression is that the earlier models are rather sturdier. If I get another tlr it will likely be something like the Yashica A which I think has separate manual shutter cocking.
