High Water

Snowmelt and rain have pushed the river over its banks to flood the riverside forest.  I walked about half a mile parallel to the river with my Mamiya C330.

Athens

We stayed in a nice little hotel in the Plaka district and spent our mornings walking its narrow streets, never far from remnants of the city's ancient past.

Getting further out from the city's center was made easy by the extensive subway system.  A small sidewalk cafe near the Acropoli station provided a memorable meal along with a quick tutorial by the waiter on the proper use of a bead bracelet to ward off the evil eye.

Symi

We spent about half our time in Greece on Symi, a small island to the north of Rhodes.  We got there from Rhodes on this fast hydrofoil ferry.  I recall riding a very similar craft from Buenos Aires to Punta del Este, but I don't think I got any pictures of that one.

Access to my photos on Photonet has gotten pretty sketchy, so it seems prudent to move a set to the blog.

I put together an exhibit of my favorites from Greece at the main library in Las Cruces shortly after our return.

Rhodes

I'm reading Lawrence Durrell's Reflections on a Marine Venus.  I think I must have first read it shortly before  we went to Greece because the images his words invoke seem so vivid now.

Villa Cleobolus?

Street of the Knights?

The pictures were all from my Vito II.

Cinco de Mayo

I needed some color film to shoot on Cinco de Mayo, so I dug around in the film drawer of the refrigerator and turned up a roll of Kodak Professional 400UC.  There was no box, so no date.  I looked it up and found that 400UC was discontinued in 2009!  I loaded it in my Vivitar Ultra Wide & Slim, which would mean a shutter speed of 1/100 at f11.  There was no officially scheduled event for the day in Old Town, but I was pretty sure some of the old car guys would show up.

Since I didn't know if anything was actually being recorded on the film I decided I might as well shoot the whole roll while walking around Old Town, looking for anything bright and colorful.    My Cinestill C-41 had already processed at least sixteen rolls; so I give the 400UC some extra time, eight minutes at 95C.  The negatives needed a bit of color and levels adjustment, but I thought the old film wore its age well.
