What's The World Coming To?

I found myself driving down Menaul close to noon so I decided to stop in at one of my favorite lunch spots.  I pulled my truck into a parking space in front of Blake's Lotaburger.

There was a good-sized crowd in the place, but nobody waiting at the counter.  I stepped up and ordered the usual:
"Corn dog, small fries and a small drink."

Without a trace of emotion the counter person replied:
"We don't have any corn dogs; they've been taken off the menu."

I was stunned.  First Trump, now this.

When I made my regular business trips to Albuquerque, a stop at Blakes was always on the schedule.

Thanks for bringing back a good memory.

Maybe Trump gave the order to take it off the menu. Wouldn't that be a kick in the head?

Nice picture though.

Actually, I have to admit that I never saw anyone else order a corn dog at Blake's. They are, not surprisingly, best known for their burgers, and they have managed to promote the idea that they make the best green chili cheese burgers in New Mexico. That, of course, is a fiction as everyone knows that the original Owl Cafe in San Antonio is the best in that category.

Best cheeseburger I ever had was in San Antonio. It was 20 years ago and I just don't remember at all where I ate it. But it was a transcendent experience, and the thing was so bad for me that I swear it shaved a full year off my life.

I'm guessing it was that other San Antonio. The Owl to which I refer is a dark little bar in a town of a couple hundred people ten miles south of Socorro, New Mexico. The place is mid-way between Las Cruces and Santa Fe, so anyone who travels often between those two cities is likely to stop off there for a green chili cheeseburger and some fries. There's a branch of The Owl in Albuquerque, but the atmosphere is all wrong and the burgers can't compare.

Ah yes, the Owl!
Best there is! No corn dogs, well I can live without those, but the green chili cheeseburger is sublime!
Great photo!
